Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff’s first game against the Carolina Panthers wasn’t the start to the regular season that the Rams were hoping for. Thankfully though, the Rams are 1-0, and Goff can presumably play with the confidence that a lot of the rust was shaken off in Charlotte.
However, NFL.com isn’t so bullish on Goff this week, dropping him four spots from last week’s QB Index in which he was ranked 12th. With the gaudy numbers that Dallas Cowboys QB Dak Prescott and Baltimore Ravens QB Lamar Jackson racked up, it makes sense that they flew up the QB index this week.
But our System QB had a pretty significant drop:

Yikes. The book on Goff seems to have a lot of material regarding his struggles on deep balls. While it’s comforting to keep beating the drum that Goff just needs to get his timing back after not playing since the Super Bowl, this critique of Goff is rather fair.
Sometimes the numbers don’t lie.
The QB index is predicated on stats, which are fun and all, but don’t don’t guarantee wins. The Rams won last Sunday with Goff. So, Goff could rank 17th or 32nd, or not even rank at all. The guy’s job is to be a leader on the LA Rams and win games.
And so far this season, Goff is undefeated.
