The Los Angeles Rams walked away from their week 1 trip to Carolina to play the Panthers with a victory - albeit one that was closer than it needed to be.
Positives: Save for some throws that QB Jared Goff forced to WR Robert Woods, the offense looked in mid-season form. The offensive line was solid against a formidable front seven and the running game was balanced.
Negatives: Two unexpected takeaways:
1) How the absence of Eric Weddle affected the play in the secondary. With the experience shared between Aqib Talib and Marcus Peters, I personally thought that play in the secondary wouldn’t take a huge dip. But Marqui Christian is a clear dip in talent and leadership ability so I suppose I shouldn’t be too shocked.
2) How shockingly inconsistent special teams were. From a blocked punt to a kickoff that went out of bounds to a missed FG, coach Bones’ squad was just off in week 1. Worth tracking moving forward, but not necessarily something to be panicked about.
