NFL-wide headlines, Preseason Week 1

Let’s have a look around the league’s breaking news. Any action? Find out below.

We start with some unfortunate news for a former Los Angeles Rams/Miami Dolphins and current Dallas Cowboys edge rusher Robert Quinn. Quinn was traded by the Dolphins this offseason, with the Cowboys stepping up by shipping a sixth-round draft pick for the former terror off the edge. Playing under Defensive Coordinator and Defensive Line Coach Rod Marinelli and across from elite edge rusher DeMarcus Lawrence was bound to bode well for Rob, though this setback could cause a slow start. Get well soon Rob, this could be your bounce back season!

Welp, turns out we’re all doomed for a little while longer as the New England Patriots and QB Tom Brady have figured out a way to extend his contract.... as if the NFL needed this.

Or? Wait..... Could this mean anything? Well, probably not, but we can all hope.

The Summer of Curtis Samuel continues as the Carolina Panthers wide receiver continues to string together solid practice, one after the next. Entering his third season both in the league and with the Panthers, Samuel’s development has taken a staggering upward direction as his speed, route running ability, and hands have been the show of camp. Samuel was hardly used his first two seasons in Carolina (91 targets combined), though the depth chart has completely cleared for the up-and-coming star. If you’re a fantasy football player, go get this guy, you’ll thank me later.

You’ve probably never heard of Niles Paul, but you should. The man has earned my respect as he’s done whatever has been necessary to stick around, parlaying his talent and willingness into a nice seven-year career spent with the Washington Redskins and Jacksonville Jaguars. Paul has played wide receiver, tight end, fullback, and h-back in the league. Well done, and enjoy retirement.

Philadelphia Eagles LB Kamu Grugier-Hill was off to a fantastic start as he was routinely cited as the “star” of training camp for the Eagles. Unfortunately for Grugier-Hill, he’ll miss roughly the next two months by way of a grade 3 MCL tear, though that could also be spun as a positive all things considered (could have been a lot worse).

The Dallas Cowboys are currently trying to work out long-term extensions for QB Dak Prescott, RB Ezekiel Elliott, and WR Amari Cooper. Jane Slater reports that the Cowboys have top-5 offers for each player in their respective position groups, though that wont get it done. Zeke is still currently holding out, too. The pressure is starting to build.
