While much of the intrigue on the injury front looking toward the Week 1 clash between the Los Angeles Rams and Carolina Panthers has revolved around QB Cam Newton, it’s actually another player that has shifted the outlook already.
Panthers K Graham Gano has been placed on injured reserve leaving the Panthers to go with K Joey Slye this year. The Panthers picked up Slye in training camp after he spent 2018 and 2019 with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Cleveland Browns and two stints with the New York Giants.
Gano has been the Panthers’ kicker since 2012 after his first three years with the Washington Kickers, so it’s going to be an unusual sight to have anyone besides GG, a Pro Bowler in 2017, kicking for Carolina.
As for Slye, he’s the all-time scoring leader at Virginia Tech having racked up 403 points in his four years with the Hokies.
