We’re at the point of the preseason where things are getting real. Players are getting ready for Week 1 and others are getting cut as teams pare down to their 53-man roster — it’s a brutal part of the NFL that everyone is accustomed to, so we can just shrug and say to ourselves, “this is a business at the end of the day.”
That being said, here are three players that have been released that could be good fits for the Los Angeles Rams.
LB Brandon Marshall
Having been cut by the Oakland Raiders after five months, veteran LB Brandon Marshall, formally of the Denver Broncos, was supposed to be a leader for the mercurial Raiders. Instead, he’s been released and is now available. The 8-year veteran has been battling a knee injury as of late, but the 29-year old likely has more miles left on the tires. Could be a good fit for the Rams but possibly a pricey one.
OLB Shane Ray
Former first-round pick OLB Shane Ray has been released by the Baltimore Ravens after signing as a free-agent this offseason. Ray obviously has talent, but for the last two seasons he’s been riddled with injuries. The advantages of his rookie contract are no longer a thing. What is most damning for Ray is that the Ravens have a shaky pass-rushing situation with the exits of LB Terrell Suggs and LB Za’Darius Smith. If Ray couldn’t thrive in that new Ravens environment, would the Rams want to sign him?
WR Pharoh Cooper
There’s a name that means something to LA Rams fans! The Arizona Cardinals decided to part ways with the speedy receiver, and now he’s looking for a home. Could he come back home to Los Angeles? Well, the wide receiver stable is pretty full right now, but the Rams don’t exactly have a locks at kick returner with guys like WR Mike Thomas and WR JoJo Natson as possible choices.
Do any of these players strike your fancy as Rams fans? Should the Rams look to the waiver wire to patch up their pass rush?
The clock is ticking and the Rams need to make their cuts by tomorrow morning. It’s all happening!
