The Los Angeles Rams spent the 251st overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft on Texas Tech Red Raiders LB Dakota Allen.

Here’s a scouting report from NFL.com’s Lance Zierlein:

Allen is an inside linebacker with good toughness and intangibles but lacks the speed and instincts teams look for in the middle. He plays with good short-area quickness and a willingness to stick his nose into oncoming traffic in order to leverage his gap and set his teammates up for success. With adequate athleticism and the potential to become a core special teamer, Allen could hear his name called in the later rounds of the draft.

Allen probably isn’t going earn defensive snaps anytime sign, but could be the heir to the role vacated by former Rams ILB Bryce Hager. He too was a seventh-rounder who filled in a spot on the ILB depth chart; Hager was able to get through his four-year rookie contact and turned into a core special teamer.

If Allen can do the same, this will be considered a very successful pick in due time.
