After multiple trades down initially from #31, the Los Angeles Rams’ first pick of the 2019 NFL Draft is Washington Huskies S Taylor Rapp.
We could see this one coming as I did in my early mock today:
He’d be a fine long-term replacement for S Lamarcus Joyner. I’m not sure how much quality football new Rams S Eric Weddle has left, but I think we all know the Rams can’t discount an investment in the position simply because of Weddle’s arrival.
Rapp’s a great downhill hitter who was stellar at UW. Isn’t the best pass defender, but we likely don’t need more safety pass skills with S John Johnson III back there.
Rapp was #65 on Mocking the Draft’s Dan Kadar’s rankings of the best players available after Round 1.
The Rams are scheduled to be on the clock next with the 79th overall pick, the additional 3rd rounder they picked up in last night’s trade with the Atlanta Falcons.
Welcome to the Ramily, Taylor!
