On Thursday, the NFL released the names of the 32 nominees for the 2019 Walter Payton Man of the Year award, which recognizes players for outstanding community service activities off the field. For the Los Angeles Rams, that man is left tackle Andrew Whitworth, who receives the nomination for a second straight year.
The greatest thing in life is to be able to invest in the people around you. We want to make a difference, change the world, create a better place, and all of this starts with our youth. There are multiple ways you can invest in kids. One is engaging, being present and showing your face and the other is the financial aspect and being able to provide the assets they need to help increase their knowledge and empower them - Andrew Whitworth
Like the other awards, the winner will be announced during NFL Honors, a two-hour prime time awards ceremony being shown on Fox on February 1 — one day before Super Bowl LIV (which he’ll hopefully be playing in. fingers crossed!).
All 32 nominees will be given $50,000 to provide a charity of their choosing. The winner of the award receives $250,000 to do the same. You can read more about the incredible off-the-field contributions from all 32 players right here.
