The Los Angeles Rams are headed to ATL to take on the Atlanta Falcons in Week 7. In doing so, they’re starting a new face on the offensive line: David Edwards.
A fifth-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Edwards came out of Wisconsin with noticeable athleticism for a tackle having played quarterback in high school before starting his collegiate career as a tight end and then settling in at right tackle. Edwards has never played guard before, but this is a concrete example of Rams Offensive Line Coach/Run Game Coordinator/Co-Offensive Coordinator Aaron Kromer’s penchant for cross-training linemen for different positions.
The move comes about as OL Joseph Noteboom tore his ACL and MCL against the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6. While the assumption was that OL Jamil Demby would step in as he did in-game and for RG Austin Blythe a few weeks back, the Rams have tabbed Edwards largely due to Demby’s poor play. No word on how the Rams plan to integrate new OL Austin Corbett who they acquired in a trade yesterday with the Cleveland Browns.
Let’s see what Edward has in store this week.
