With the Los Angeles Rams set to play the Oakland Raiders in Week 1 of the regular season in just five days, the team announced today they have waived safety Isaiah Johnson.
A free agent who came beyond the 2015 NFL Draft, Johnson originally signed with the Detroit Lions before landing in St. Louis a year later. He has since bounced between the practice squad and active roster for the last three years. He played in four games and logged a single tackle in last year’s Week 17 game against the San Francisco 49ers that featured the Rams’ backups.
The move leaves the Rams with four safeties on the 53-man roster in Lamarcus Joyner, John Johnson III, Blake Countess and Marqui Christian.
It also opens a roster spot of premium interest with DL Aaron Donald still on a roster exemption that he was granted with his contract extension last week.
