2018 college football Week 4: Live thread, streaming, TV info

The last week before college football explodes...

NCAA Football: Stanford at Oregon Scott Olmos-USA TODAY Sports

We’re getting close to the meat of the college football season. Of the powerhouse conference matchups.

Of the madness.

Here’s what we’ve got today as conference play gets going and things turn up:

Trap games for #2 Georgia and #8 Notre Dame

12:00pm ET, ESPN/ABC

On ESPN, it’s #2 Georgia headed to take on Missouri. On paper, this one is a heavy tilt for Georgia as two-touchdown favorites. But Mizzou has offense. And NFL-worthy QB Drew Lock. And they’ve got the home crowd. He’ll have to avoid letting Georgia CB Deandre Baker steal the show after coming in at #10 on ESPN’s Mel Kiper’s updated big board (insider sub required). FWIW, Lock came in at #16...

Meanwhile, Notre Dame heads to Wake Forest on ABC in what should be a closer battle. Still, the Irish have a wealth of talent that far surpasses Wake. ILB Te’von Coney, CB Julian Love and DT Jerry Tillery all look very impressive. The problem is that Notre Dame is living by the skin of their teeth. They beat then-ranked #14 Michigan, unranked Ball St. and unranked Vanderbilt (who albeit are a solid Vandy side this year) all by less than double digits. In other words, they’re winning one-possession games as the #8 team in the nation. Can they get by Wake this week playing things so tight to the line? Maybe. Can they survive the next three weeks that way against #7 Stanford, #12 Virginia Tech and an always disruptive Pitt? Hell no.

#22 Texas A&M at #1 Alabama is an NFL talent preview

3:30pm ET, CBS

Might as well watch em on Saturday before we watch em on Sunday.

Northern Illinois EDGE Sutton Smith gets a legit NFL platform against Florida St.

3:30pm ET, ESPNU

Haven’t heard of Smith yet? Yeah, nobody has. Mark him down. He’s comin.

And an opportunity against FSU (as bad as they are) with plenty of chances to come because of NIU’s offense (as bad as they are) should be a big opportunity. If he shows out, expect him to be someone we re-visit later this season.

#14 Mississippi St. at Kentucky is a great look for LBs for Rams fans

7:00pm ET, ESPN2

Imagine a world where Florida heads to Tennessee for a primetime matchups on ESPN, and we’re talking about MSU-UK.

Well, here we are.

The Bulldogs have EDGE Montez Sweat with QB Nick Fitzgerald and DT Jeffery Simmons to offer while UK has LB Josh Allen. Either Sweat or Allen would fit as a first-round selection for the Rams as of right now. Oh, and MSU is a top-15 team while UK is still smarting from having beaten Florida after a 31-game losing streak.

#7 Stanford at #20 Oregon puts the Pac-12 in primetime

8:00pm ET, ABC

Stanford is stacked on offense, but Oregon has QB Justin Herbert who could be the first QB selected next spring. This one could be really fun with Stanford set to head out for Notre Dame next week while Oregon continues a rough Pac-12 gauntlet.

Today should be an absolute blast.
