Los Angeles Rams Rookie Report Card: Week 2

How’d the rookies fare on Sunday?

NFL: Los Angeles Rams at Oakland Raiders Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

The Los Angeles Rams early season dominance is on full display — the Wade Phillips-led defense completely blanketed the Arizona Cardinals en-route to a 34-0 victory at home at the LA Memorial Coliseum.

As stated above, the Rams are defensively dominant at this time. The secondary allowed under 100 receiving yards. The front seven allowed only 54 rushing yards. On offense, the Rams started clicking on all cylinders. Newly minted WR Brandin Cooks looks like the No. 1 receiver the Rams offense has sorely missed, and Todd Gurley proved he does not need to have 100-plus rushing yards to be productive.

Without further ado, lets get into the rookie report cards:

Report Card

DE/OLB John Franklin-Myers

Early thus far through these first two games, Franklin-Myers has entrenched himself as part of the OLB timeshare. He and veteran (and former-defensive tackle) Dominique Easley split time at the spot opposite of Samson Ebukam.

JFM is stout. the young man plays the run well, and provides some juice as a pass rusher. This kid is looking good.

Grade: B+

C Brian Allen

The Rams offense was up 27 to zero midway through the fourth quarter. So, some of the reserves got the opportunity to play some snaps.

Brian Allen played in the final scoring drive. Just like in his practice reps, Allen was stout in the middle. Looking forward to seeing the young guns get some PT again in future garbage time scenarios, with the game well in our hands of course!

Grade: B-

EDGE Justin Lawler

I believe I saw Lawler in again for one single play. In his lone play, Lawler was neither an asset nor a liability.

Grade: Incomplete

ILB Micah Kiser

Kiser is buried at the bottom of the inside linebacker depth chart. A victim of the numbers game, Micah received no playing time.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

OT Joe Noteboom

While Noteboom’s fellow rookie offensive line-mate, Brian Allen, earned a few playing minutes, the man in front of Joe (Andrew Whittworth) played the game’s entirety.

Soon, young padawan. Soon.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo

Obo is still on the PUP. Check back soon.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

RB John Kelly

Running back John Kelly was once again on the pregame inactive list.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

DL Sebastian Joseph-Day

The defensive line depth is real.Due to that “real-ness,” Joseph-Day was again a pregame inactive.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

EDGE Trevon Young

Young was part of the Rams’ street clothes mafia.

Grade: N/A Incomplete

That does it for this week’s installation of the Rams rookie report card. Come back next week for the next episode...
