Remember back in July when during an interview with HBO Sports’ Bryant Gumbel Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay seemingly recalled every play he’s ever seen as a coach?
Yeah he’s doing it again.
Now, it’s from an interview during training camp for Bleacher Report’s Simms & Lefkoe show with Chris Simms and Adam Lefkoe, McVay’s at it again.
(McVay interview begins at the 5:22 mark)
There’s not a lot of explanation here. It’s not just plays from 2017, games that he’s certainly re-watched several times this offseason and has fresh in the memory. What’s strange is that its seemingly isn’t restricted to games he’s coached:
What’s funny — McVay can even remember plays he wasn’t involved in. Former OC Matt LaFleur told me in 17 McVay once told him to pull up a random play from PIT/DEN a few years back. He described game clock + field position. When LaFleur looked it up, was exactly as McVay said. https://t.co/77zPC9hMxB

I guess this is why I don't delete things. Here's exactly what former #LARams OC Matt LaFleur said about HC Sean McVay's memory back in August of 2017. pic.twitter.com/Jz9WWlU01z

Not sure there’s much to add here. It’s ridiculous.
I would like to request though that this become a formal part of every media press conference. Every media event should begin with one reporter being allowed to pick a random play to see if McVay remembers it. Not sure we even need to limit it to the last five years or anything. Or perhaps we start with the easy stuff and build out. By late next year, we’ll be into the 1970s New York Jets season. That might finally stump him.
Or not.
