Jacksonville Jaguars WR Marqise Lee to miss 2018 season with knee injury

Lee injured his knee in the Jags’ preseason game against the Atlanta Falcons.

TE Julius Thomas retires

The former Pro-Bowl tight end is moving on from his football career to pursue a PHD in psychology and study the effects of brain trauma. Thomas explained his rationale in a letter to the Players’ Tribune, “It fills me with a sense of purpose. It’s a way to help while growing intellectually that I had been searching for. I know I have so much to learn, but that’s what I’m most looking forward to.”

WR Eric Decker retires

A post shared by Eric Decker (@ericdecker) on

After an eight-year career with the Denver Broncos, New York Jets and most recently the Tennessee Titans, Decker is hanging them up.

WR Josh Gordon returning to action with the Cleveland Browns

Gordon has been cleared to return to all activities with the Browns. Having missed two full seasons due to substance abuse violations, he sat out Saturday with a light hamstring issue. Browns HC Hue Jackson said that Gordon would not start in their regular season opener, though that may just be cosmetic if he plays the majority of snaps.

Baltimore Ravens TE Hayden Hurst injures foot

Hurst, the 25th overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft, will miss the beginning of the season after suffering a stress fracture in his foot. TE Nick Boyle is currently slated to start at tight end for Baltimore.

Browns CB E.J. Gaines escapes injury scare

The former Ram will be sidelined for a few weeks following a sprain in his knee. The diagnosis is far less serious than originally feared. Gaines, a solid player when healthy, also suffered a couple season-shortening injuries during his time in St. Louis and Los Angeles.

Arizona Cardinals re-up C A.Q. Shipley despite being on IR

Shipley will miss this season with a torn ACL, but Shipley got a bit of good news when the Cardinals gave him a one-year contract extension. Shipley was set to become a free agent after this season.

Oakland Raiders waive Obi Melifonwu, sign Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie

The Raiders waived Melifonwu, a second-round selection from the 2017 NFL Draft, and signed a former Pro-Bowler in Rodgers-Cromartie who played in five games for the New York Giants last season. Could he play as early as Week 1 in the Monday Night Football season opener against the Rams?

Raiders trading WR Ryan Switzer to Pittsburgh Steelers

Sounds like there’s one Raid we won’t see in Week 1.

Washington signs RB Adrian Peterson

Following a slew of backfield injuries, including a season-ending ACL tear for 2018 second-round selection Derrius Guice; Washington has signed the 33-year old superstar. The future Hall Of Famer hasn’t had a productive season since 2015, and spent the end of last season on injured-reserve for the Cardinals.

Browns QB Tyrod Taylor suffers finger injury

Taylor suffered a dislocated pinky, but the injury is not thought to be serious. Taylor should be able to hold his starting quarterback position, as 2018 #1 overall pick QB Baker Mayfield continues to develop.

Giants and WR Odell Beckham, Jr., continue to make contract negotiations progress

The two sides sound like they are making progress. After plenty of trade rumors earlier this year, it seems that Beckham and new Head Coach Pat Shurmur have hit it off and there is a momentum to get a deal done that would make Beckham the highest-paid receiver in the league.

San Francisco 49ers trade SAM linebacker Eli Harold to Detroit Lions

The Niners sent Harold to Motown in exchange for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2020. Harold, a 2015 third-round pick, was set to possibly change positions in San Francisco’s increasingly crowded linebacker corps this season, prior to the trade. The 49ers will only receive Detroit’s pick if Harold remains on the Lions roster for at least four weeks.

Dallas Cowboys offensive line unsettled for Week 1

The Cowboys’ vaunted offensive line has been taking hits lately. Pro Bowl C Travis Fredrick’s immediate future is in question after being diagnosed with the auto-immune disease known as Guillain-Barre syndrome. Also, guard Zack Martin hyperextended his knee and La’el Collins was seen limping around camp. We’ll see if any these issue creep into the regular season.

The regular season is now 13 days away, hopefully everyone can get right and be ready to roll.

FOOTBALL!
