NFL-wide headlines, Preseason Week 3

NFL teams continue to risk their team’s health for a month of exhibition games. Nick Foles and Isaiah Wynn suffer injuries.

New England Patriots OL Isaiah Wynn tears Achilles, will miss 2018 season

Wynn was carted off during the Patriots’ preseason Super Bowl reboot against the Philadelphia Eagles. The former University of Georgia standout and first-round pick in the 2018 NFL Draft was playing right tackle when the injury occurred.

Eagles QB Nick Foles injures shoulder

In that same game, Super Bowl MVP Nick Foles strained his shoulder. The Eagles had been slowly easing back projected starter Carson Wentz who tore his ACL in the Coliseum against the Los Angeles Rams in mid-December. It’s still early in the preseason, so it seems unlikely that head coach Doug Pederson would succumb to any pressure to accelerate Wentz’s return, for now.

Seattle Seahawks RB Rashaad Penny has finger surgery, to miss 3-4 weeks

The Seahawks should have Penny back for their regular season opener following successful surgery on his pointer finger. Seattle is hoping that the rookie out of San Diego St. can add a dimension to an offense that hasn’t had an established ground game since the days of Marshawn Lynch.

Another element that may help the Seahawks resuscitate their ground attack might be the offseason acquisition of former first round selection D.J. Fluker. Apparently the Seahawks have been very impressed with the play of giant guard so far.

Pittsburgh Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger goes down

Ben Roethlisberger has cleared concussion protocol after a scare during the Steelers’ practice on Tuesday when he collided with OT Marcus Gilbert leaving the quarterback on the ground for several moments.

Tennessee Titans TE Delanie Walker injured

Walker left practice on Thursday with an undisclosed injury.

San Francisco 49ers sign RB Alfred Morris

The 49ers recently signed former Washington standout RB Alfred Morris. Most recently, the running back played a limited role for the Dallas Cowboys. He should help serve a nice insurance policy for San Francisco, who will be looking to the diminutiv RBe Jerick McKinnon to carry a heavy load this season.

The Los Angeles Rams’ NFC West rivals, the 49ers have had plenty of players dinged up in camp and preseason so far, but expect them all back for the regular season. Among the wounded are tight end George Kittles (shoulder), running back Matt Breida (shoulder), and Solomon Thomas (concussion).

But don’t worry about em this year!

Seahawks to play Oakland Raiders in Wembley

The Seahawks and Oakland Raiders had been scheduled to meet in the new Tottenham Stadium in London this season. However due to ongoing construction, the game will be moved to the larger Wembley Stadium. Don’t they know you can play in a stadium during construction?

Protest update

A handful of NFL players continued their call for equal treatment for all Americans despite continued twitter assaults from the president in the first week of preseason action. Before Thursday’s preseason game in Foxboro, Eagles safety and one of the faces of the movement, Malcolm Jenkins, donned a shirt that read, “you aren’t listening.”

On three....health!

The regular season is now only 20 days away.
