2018 Los Angeles Rams Roster Preview: Is Marqui Christian the SS of the Future?

Christian is obviously going to get consideration to be the Rams backup safety. He could also be getting extended looks into a potentially larger role in 2019.

Marqui Christian finds himself in a fairly unique position heading into 2018. He likely won’t be playing much in 2018, but has an opportunity to show some work ethic and some potential in training camp.

While most players in his position are playing for a spot on the 2018 Los Angeles Rams, Christian could very well be getting a first look at a potentially substantial role in 2019.

Roster Battle

Sorry kid, Lamarcus Joyner isn’t going to relinquish his starting role. Neither is John Johnson. The best you can do learn from one of the best pairs of safeties in the NFL.

Expectations

Learn from Joyner and Johnson at every possible moment. Given the Rams penchant for not getting long term contract extensions done - specifically with DBs, you might be asked to be the next man up in 2019 if Joyner walks and the Rams decide to move Johnson to FS.

Chances of Making Roster (6/10)

Christian hasn’t done anything to lose his spot on the roster, but hasn’t necessarily done anything to blow away his competition either. He will have a slew of young safeties nipping at his heels for that roster spot.

As always in these back end roster spots, it may come down to contributions made on John Fassel’s special teams units.
