The Los Angeles Rams selected Steven F. Austin DL John Franklin-Myers with the 135th overall pick in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
With the story of the draft for the Rams thus far being about offensive line depth, the team decided to switch to the defensive line at 135. Franklin-Myers is an interesting player noticeably because of the current depth on the defensive line and because he was considered a reach by some. It will be interesting to learn how the Rams plan on using him. Maybe as a big edge player? Maybe as a rotational piece? We’ll see:
Here’s what Lance Zierlein had to say about in his draft profile at NFL.com:
Franklin-Myers carried 297 pounds on his frame this spring but played at 280 at the NFLPA game in January. His sweet spot might be around 290 pounds, which would position him more favorably as a 3-4 defensive end with some rush potential. Franklin-Myers flashes power at the point of attack and the ability to get a quick win when he’s working around the edges. He’s a solid developmental prospect with intriguing upside if the technique improves.
Grade: C+
