It’s draft week!
The 2018 NFL Draft officially lands on Thursday and with it the hopes and dreams of every NFL team’s fan base renewed. Well, most teams. Some teams are very good on paper and don’t need the draft to improve their roster or even have any draft picks in the first 86 picks to use anyway. Some hypothetical teams I mean.
And so it is that, sniff, we have the last Monday mock of the year from Mocking the Draft’s Dan Kadar. Sad!
No, the Los Angeles Rams aren’t involved, and no they’re not likely to. But the first round gives way to Day 2 and the second and third rounds which the Rams will be involved in so...intrigue!
I’m mostly eager to see how these five hinges play out on Thursday and into Friday. Will we get QB-QB-QB in the first three picks? I think so, but Kadar has it mocked differently with a QB-RB-QB trio in Wyoming QB Josh Allen, Penn St. RB Saquon Barkley and Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield, Yes, that top trio includes neither USC QB Sam Darnold nor UCLA QB Josh Rosen. Intrigue!
At four, the first of my five hinges, Kadar mocks the Cleveland Browns to use their second pick of the draft on North Carolina St. DE Bradley Chubb. Of course, the QB market is still wide open. Darnold, Rosen and Louisville QB Lamar Jackson are all still available. Kadar finds a way to make everyone happy by sending them to the Denver Broncos, the Buffalo Bills and the Arizona Cardinals, respectively. I do wonder if Rosen slides past 10 if the Cardinals try to jump the Bills, but we’ll see once the craziness starts which QB makes a draft day slip.
There’s no real position run in Kadar’s mock and it’s a first round-only mock, so we don’t get to see things unfold on Day 2. The path to 87 starts around #19 with the Dallas Cowboys, so it’s gonna be interesting to see things unfolding on Thursday.
We’re about 80 hours out as of writing this. Stay tuned...
