2018 NFL Mock Draft roundup: Lack of free agent frenzy means everything remains open for Los Angeles Rams

Having yet to fill any roster holes in free agency, the Rams’ mock draft outlook remains open albeit tilted toward edge rushers.

Trio of mock drafts from the CBS Sports crew this week. Figured this would be fine Friday evening fodder.

CBS Sports - Pete Prisco

Petey Pablo has some trade action at the top motivated by the QB action worth looking into. I really don’t have a feel whatsoever for it, but obviously coming out of the 2017 NFL Draft when the Chicago Bears traded up to #2 for Mitchell Trubisky and the Los Angeles Rams and Philadelphia Eagles remaking the 2016 NFL Draft top order for Jared Goff and Carson Wentz it’s unfair to rule anything out in the mocks.

Last time around, he had us taking Colorado CB Isaiah Oliver saying:

Yes, they traded for Marcus Peters, but he might be a two-year rental and you can never have enough corners.

This time:

23. Los Angeles Rams: Harold Landry, EDGE, Boston College

They traded Robert Quinn away to the Dolphins. While they like some of their younger players, you can never have enough edge rushers.

While the write-up is the same, you can never have enough mock picks.

CBS Sports - Will Brinson

One big note prior to the Rams here? Brinson has a wacky double trade where the Buffalo Bills move up to #3 for their QB, in this case USC Trojans QB Sam Darnold, but then has the Indianapolis Colts using their haul from Buffalo to move back up themselves to #12 to take Landry. With such a week edge class in free agency, I do wonder if we see teams eager to get in on the draft class at the position.

In any case, it’s a very interesting pick from Brinson for the Rams:

23. Los Angeles Rams: D.J. Moore, WR, Maryland

After losing Sammy Watkins and likely releasing Tavon Austin, the Rams could use another wide receiver in the fold.

New name? Me likey!

CBS Sports - Chris Trapasso

All kinds of wackiness in Trap’s mock. Buffalo trading up, the New York Giants trading up, SMU WR Courtland Sutton at #18 to the Seattle Seahawks, Oklahoma St. QB Mason Rudolph and LSU RB Derrius Guice in front of the Rams at 23...whew.

And the newness doesn’t stop on our porch:

23. Los Angeles Rams: Josh Sweat, DE, Florida St.

With Robert Quinn on his way to Miami, the Rams draft a similar talent in Sweat, a prospect who has his best football in front of him.

Obviously the logic’s there on par with the Landry pick. Personally, I’m ok with it. I like Sweat and if this is the Rams’ guy on their board, pull the trigger.

We’re headed into the weekend without any new free agents to reshape the roster needs. What do we think of the mock picks? Issues with a wide receiver? Any other positions besides EDGE you’d like to see get addressed at 23?
