With free agency now upon us, the Los Angeles Rams have made two roster moves at the back of the depth chart.

Just like RB Malcolm Brown and CB Troy Hill, the Rams have applied a minimum salary tender to Exclusive Rights Free Ageny K Sam Ficken. Ficken signed with the Rams in mid-December when K Greg Zuerlein was forced to go on Injured Reserve with a season-ending back injury following the Rams’ blowout of the Seattle Seahawks in Week 15. The immediate results were disastrous as Ficken missed an extra point, a 36-yard field goal and left the Rams with so little confidence in his chances to make a 50-yard field goal that they instead opted for a punt fake which failed.

At this point, the Rams certainly have to bring a second kicker into the offseason. They did so for training camp in previous years even when Zuerlein was healthy. Coming off of the back injury, that move’s even more prudent.

The Rams also re-signed OLB Garrett Sickels. He was a UDFA coming out of the 2017 NFL Draft who landed with the Indianapolis Colts before jumping to the Cleveland Browns and then joining the Rams’ practice squad in mid-October. Perhaps that gives him a leg up on the competition to remain there, because a spot on the 53-man roster seems highly unlikely.
