Los Angeles Rams sign OT Michael Dunn

Not exactly the major pre-free agency headliner, but a signing nonetheless!

HEY! IT COUNTS! THE FIRST SIGNING OF PRE-FREE AGENCY FREE AGENCY!

Yes with free agency officially opening as existing contracts set to expire on 4pm ET, March 14, we’ve got a signing early in the form of OT Michael Dunn. Dunn, a rookie UDFA in 2017, signed with the Los Angeles Rams in June of last year during the annual 90-man roster bulk up. He was cut in early September around the 53-man roster mark during some pre-Week 1 dabbling at the back end.

The offensive tackle position is going to be an interesting one to watch in 2018. Starting LT Andrew Whitworth is now 36-years old and while he had a fine season overall, his form dipped in the second half and he had his worst game of the year in the Rams’ lone playoff game, a wild card round loss to the Atlanta Falcons. Starting RT Rob Havenstein enters the final year of his rookie contract. The Rams’ primary backups in 2018, Cornelius Lucas and Darrell Williams, are both free agents; Lucas will be unrestricted in free agency while Williams is a RFA with just three accrued NFL seasons.

So don’t count Dunn out entirely. Our own Elijah Kim gave Dunn a 2/10 chance to make the 2017 roster back in July, but I wouldn’t be surprised if that number’s a bit higher. We’ll have to see if the Rams add anyone to the roster in early free agency or late in the 2018 NFL Draft before filling out the back end of the roster over the summer.

But now that we have a signing...LET THE FREE AGENT FRENZY BEGIN!
