Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay just said in his press remarks today that DE/OLB Dominique Easley underwent knee surgery on his left knee, the one he injured last year, and is likely to miss the rest of the season on injured reserve.
It’s a brutal injury for Easley for what is the fifth knee injury of his football career. He re-upped on a one-year contract his offseason, so he’ll be a free agent again next March. It would have made for a great story to have put in a solid 2018 and hit a new deal on the back of some good tape, but sadly that’s not going to happen. We’ll have to see what his market is like next March. Hard not to consider if this is a career-ender, sadly.
As for the Rams, it’s yet another man on the outside down. Easley would join OLB Carlos Thompson, OLB Garrett Sickels and EDGE Morgan Fox on IR; additionally, rookie EDGE Ogbonnia Okoronkwo is on the Physically Unable to Perfom list having broken his foot during the offseason program. EDGE Matt Longacre started in place of Easley in Week 4. Fair to assume that’s the starting point heading into practice this week with EDGE Justin Lawler and OLB Trevon Young providing depth.
Sucks for Dom. Obviously, he deserved better from the fates. Here’s hoping for the best for him in recovery and beyond.
