After a banner year in which Just Todd Gurley had his best statistical output in every category helping lead the NFL’s top scoring offense in the regular season, many have put him in the mix for the NFL MVP award. If the six players involved for the NFL’s online award for quarterbacks and running backs is any indication, it may give us a sense of just how strong Gurley’s MVP candidacy is.
The FedEx Air Player of the Year candidates are New England Patriots QB Tom Brady, Philadelphia Eagles QB Carson Wentz and Kansas City QB Alex Smith. Most conventional analysts have Gurley’s top competition for the MVP award coming from Brady who led the NFL in passing yards while helping the Pats to a 13-3 record.
As for the running backs, JTG is up against two strong candidates:
- Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell: The Steelers’ bellcow wasn’t quite as productive as last year, but he still had a strong year to help power their offense. His nine rushing touchdowns were a career single-season high.
- Kansas City Chiefs RB Kareem Hunt: Your 2017 NFL rushing champion...boo. The Chiefs’ rookie had an outstanding first NFL season with 1,327 rushing yards and eight rushing touchdowns.
So go hook up JTG with your vote, Rams fans!
