Here’s how the playing time looked for Week 1

Note: I’ll update the snap counts in this spreadsheet all season including the first tab tracking the season totals. While I’ll paste individual game PT in each week’s recap, I’ll likely refer to the season totals moving forward from that link. So uh, peep it.

The Los Angeles Rams dominated the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, winning 49-6. Let’s look at who got the PT.

Offense

Week 1 v Colts - Offense

Player POS OFF OFF%
Player POS OFF OFF%
Jamon Brown G 65 100.00%
Rob Havenstein OT 65 100.00%
Rodger Saffold OT 65 100.00%
Andrew Whitworth OT 60 92.31%
John Sullivan C 60 92.31%
Jared Goff QB 60 92.31%
Tyler Higbee TE 53 81.54%
Todd Gurley RB 48 73.85%
Robert Woods WR 43 66.15%
Cooper Kupp WR 39 60.00%
Sammy Watkins WR 38 58.46%
Gerald Everett TE 29 44.62%
Pharoh Cooper WR 22 33.85%
Josh Reynolds WR 17 26.15%
Derek Carrier TE 13 20.00%
Malcolm Brown RB 11 16.92%
Tavon Austin WR 7 10.77%
Austin Blythe C 5 7.69%
Darrell Williams OT 5 7.69%
Justin Davis RB 5 7.69%
Sean Mannion QB 5 7.69%

A bit of a skew here with some of the starters getting some rest late. QB Jared Goff, LT Andrew Whitworth and C John Sullivan all gave up snaps they wouldn’t have otherwise had this not been a blowout. Will be interesting to see the next time we see C Austin Blythe, LT Darrell Williams or QB Sean Mannion in action.

Otherwise, we set the bar at wide receiver, tight end and running back. Yes, the late game action changed things, but bar set nonetheless.

One other bar set? WR Tavon Austin got 7 snaps at just a 10.77% rate.

Dominique Hatfield CB 10 20.00%
Corey Littleton LB 9 18.00%
Bryce Hager LB 9 18.00%
John Johnson DB 9 18.00%

Interesting that OLB Robert Quinn was the selectee to come off for nickel snaps.

And hard to buy too much into the hardness of these numbers given the score and the rotation in the second half, but still great to see the NFL debuts of so many rookies.

Have to think the return of DE Aaron Donald will affect numbers of front with a trickle-down effect.

Mark Barron LB 1 2.86%
Tanzel Smart DT 1 2.86%
Robert Quinn OLB 1 2.86%

Eight core players topped the 50% mark:

  • LB Cory Littleton
  • S Cody Davis
  • ILB Bryce Hager
  • S John Johnson
  • RB Malcolm Brown
  • OLB Samson Ebukam
  • CB Blake Countess
  • TE Derek Carrier

Only Johnson was a core member of special teams during the preseason, though Ebukam was hurt and Carrier wasn’t on the team. So much for correlation there.
