Well that was fun.
You’d be hard to find a matchup the Rams didn’t win in their 46-9 trouncing of the Colts yesterday. Unfortunately I don’t have time to summarize every matchup the Rams dominated on Sunday, but we can revisit some of the key matchups that I identified on Friday.
Rams QB Jared Goff vs Colts Secondary
What’s there not to like here? Goff looked like a #1 overall pick for the first time in his career as he hit a ton of ‘firsts’. His first win. His first 300 yard game. His first game above 70% passing. His first QBR above 50 (65.7). He spread the ball around to 7 different receivers and was only sacked once.
This is the Goff the Rams drafted. All hail McVay!
Rams DT Michael Brockers vs Colts Interior OL
This one wasn’t even close. Brockers dominated the Colts OL early and often and ended up leading the Rams in tackles while registering a tackle for a loss and a QB hit. He showed that he can be successful in the absence of Aaron Donald while proving that he’s worth every penny of his 3 year $33M extension.
Sean McVay vs Sean McVay
I think the 46-9 final score speaks for itself here.
Rams CB Trumaine Johnson vs Colts WR T.Y. Hilton
Suffice to say Tru won this battle. He had a pick 6, a forced fumble and recovery, and nearly had another interception in the end zone. His contract season is off to a fantastic start.
