The Los Angeles Rams and Los Angeles Chargers met for the first time as co-habitants of LA today.
First and foremost there is an elephant in the room I’m gonna address.....
For those wondering. Demoff/Kroenke not at tonight's induction. Went to Warner party and Gold Jacket dinner. Back to LA for Rams scrimmage
— Martin Kilcoyne (@martinkilcoyne2) August 6, 2017
This is a really bad look for Kroenke. I get he went to the dinner, but this is a black eye on the franchise in my opinion. If you want to win the hearts and minds of fans, support your former greats to the utmost of you ability.
That being said..... off to practice
The Chargers are ready to wrestle for the hearts of LA fans.

Credit Rams fans for showing up in enemy territory though.
It's 4:30, and the Chargers have far more players on the field than the Rams. They are winning the #FightForCarson.
— Alden Gonzalez (@Alden_Gonzalez) August 5, 2017
I’m trying to give the team the benefit of the doubt, but this is......not good.
The Aaron Donald Situation
Our @Ryan_Kartje writes that Aaron Donald’s holdout w #Rams is product of #NFL’s unfair rookie-wage scale. https://t.co/ZWlcZRJPVB
— OC Register Sports (@OCRegSports) August 5, 2017
This is a wee bit ridiculous. I completely agree that Aaron Donald is being underpaid, but does anyone remember Sam Bradford’s rookie contract? What about Ndomakong Suh? This rookie wage scale may be a little broken, but it’s MUCH less broken than the old system. (Steps off soap box)
I’ll explain this on the pod soon, but it’s very unlikely that Aaron Donald will have to worry about the accrued season deadline on Aug. 8.
— Ryan Kartje (@Ryan_Kartje) August 6, 2017
Possible optimism about a new deal?
Injuries
This continues to slide downhill for the Rams, who can’t seem to shake the injury bug early in camp.
Andrew Donnal, a key offensive line reserve for Rams, is on sidelines with his leg/knee in a soft support.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 5, 2017
Rams safety Lamarcus Joyner also not practicing today.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 5, 2017
No reason given for Joyner being sidelined. Hopefully we get an update soon from McVay.
Also, Brockers and Quinn were in uniform today but neither really practiced. We're down to the last 15 minutes here.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
Well that’s a step in the right direction.....
McVay’s Offense
Two long runs for #Rams Todd Gurley against #Chargers No. 1 defense in 11 on 11 ref zone drills
— Vincent Bonsignore (@DailyNewsVinny) August 6, 2017
Again, not going to be make a lot out of no-tackling drills, but Todd Gurley has made some real nice runs today.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
This is fan-freaking-tastic news. Hopefully Gurley can get back on track and rip off some explosive runs and ease pressure off Jared Goff.
Rams' first-team three-receiver set is Pharoh Cooper, Cooper Kupp and Robert Woods. More ... https://t.co/J1CvuZsdAy
— Alden Gonzalez (@Alden_Gonzalez) August 6, 2017
Worth noting that Cooper is getting the snaps vacated by Tavon Austin’s absence.
Goff threw a TD to Kupp in red-zone drill, then got the ball stripped by Joey Bosa on the next play. Then threw a TD to Pharoh Cooper.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
The roller coaster continues for Jared Goff. I want to see him do this in full-contact though.

YAISSSSSSSSSSSSS
Rams O struggling in the third-down 11 on 11 drills. I’ve counted eight straight incompletions.
— Joe Curley (@vcsjoecurley) August 6, 2017
Cue fans panicking.
Best part of Goff’s day probably comes in two-minute drill. Hits 8 of first 9 throws (only miss was a Higbee drop) to drive Rams to C16.
— Joe Curley (@vcsjoecurley) August 6, 2017
Yup, he’s still more comfortable in this situation. Curley doesn’t specify, but I’d wager it was mostly out of the shotgun.
Play action, roll out, dump it off. Seeing a lot of that from Jared Goff today.
— Alden Gonzalez (@Alden_Gonzalez) August 6, 2017
Build this kids confidence by keeping him clean. I like it.
Wade’s Defense
Chargers' defense seems to be abiding by this "don't go to the ground" rule. The Rams' defense...less so.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
I appreciate the ferocity, but this isn’t helping the Rams ‘dirty team’ label.
Rams' defense getting a few tipped passes in 11-on-11 drills. EJ Gaines mentioned this the other day, as a Wade Phillips emphasis.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
This point of emphasis could pay dividends by a Rams secondary that has gotten roasted in the past by going for the big INT instead of a simple pass deflection.
Bit of a tough day for Rams corner Kayvon Webster. He's been beat a couple times.
— Rich Hammond (@Rich_Hammond) August 6, 2017
Webster may be losing ground to E.J. Gaines in the CB battle....
Ok- defenses turn to stop the Chargers two-minute drill. Rivers tried to attack @kayvonwebster with two deep balls. KWebb with good coverage
— Dani Klupenger (@daniklup) August 6, 2017
Then again, maybe not.
Biggest response from the crowd today. WR Travis Benjamin beats EJ Gaines and drops a TD pass over the top.
— Joe Curley (@vcsjoecurley) August 6, 2017
E.J. not doing himself any favors either. If this is going to be a strength in 2017, these guys need to pick up their play.
Bones’ Special Teams
Special teams going right now- no surprise here, but dang @JHekker can kick the crap out of the ball. Sheesh.
— Dani Klupenger (@daniklup) August 6, 2017
Just Johnny Hekker up to his usual shenanigans.
Cooper Kupp returning punts (Tavon not dressed), for what it's worth. #RamsCamp #Rams
— J.B. Long (@JB_Long) August 6, 2017
Gotta say, I’m surprised that Cooper isn’t returning punts.
Greg Zuerlein goes 5 of 6 during field goal attempts. Only miss came on first (and shortest) kick. Hit left upright from 37. 48 longest.
— Joe Curley (@vcsjoecurley) August 6, 2017
Legatron NEEDS to find that consistency in 2017.
