The Los Angeles Rams made a quartet of roster moves today:
DE Dominique Easley - Placed on IR
The Rams made it official after yesterday’s news that Easley had torn his ACL and will miss the entire 2017 season.
Get well, Dom.
FB Zach Laskey - Waived
We knew some kind of update was coming when RB Todd Gurley included Laskey in a tweet wishing successful surgery and rehab for he, Easley and injured Washington Football Consortium RB Keith Marshall. A 2015 UDFA, Laskey joined the Rams out of Georgia Tech as the primary backup for Cory Harkey, a backup slot that was never called upon.
Whatever the medical issue was, we hope he comes back 100% and finds a way to get his first NFL action.
WR Justin Thomas - Signed
Thomas played quarterback at Georgia Tech, one of the weirdest positions in the sport. The Yellow Jackets run a heavy triple option attack under HC Paul Johnson that uses the ground attack much more frequently than the pass. Consider 2016. Georgia Tech threw the ball 160 times last year. They ran it 611 times. If you haven’t seen them play, yes, those numbers can throw you off. It’s just their system. And a lot of the time, it works, like in 2014 when Thomas and Laskey helped the Yellow Jackets finish 8th in the polls with an 11-3 record (203 passes to 790 rushes, FWIW).
So Thomas is transitioning to wide receiver in the NFL. He got his first work in at the position with the New Orleans Saints, but he was released earlier this week. We’ll see if he can get some work in as the Rams prep for a pair of joint practices with the Los Angeles Chargers at their camp on Saturday and hosting them next Wednesday.
WR C.J. Germany - Signed
C.J. Germany played wide receiver at Notre Dame. College. Notre Dame College. It’s real. I checked.
It’s outside the Cleveland area, so our lone Clevelander Elijah Kim might have some insight on him.
