With today’s trade between the Los Angeles Rams and the Buffalo Bills, the outlay for the 2018 NFL Draft has changed a bit.
The top roster needs for the Rams look totally different having added WR Sammy Watkins to say nothing of how things might look at cornerback having traded CB E.J. Gaines away with CB Trumaine Johnson potentially playing out his final season as a Ram. On top of roster needs, the trade cost the Rams their second-round pick next year while adding a sixth-rounder.
Here’s the current draft holdings for next year:
2018 NFL Draft LA Rams Order
Rd | # overall | # in round | Pick |
---|---|---|---|
Rd | # overall | # in round | Pick |
3 | 87 | 23 | Rams pick |
4 | 111 | 11 | Rams pick (via Dolphins) |
4 | 135 | 35 | Rams pick (via Giants) |
4 | 136 | 36 | Rams pick (via Patriots) |
6 | 176 | 2 | Rams pick (via Giants) |
6 | 183 | 9 | Rams pick (via Dolphins) |
6 | 194 | 20 | Rams pick (via Lions) |
6 | 195 | 21 | Rams pick (via Bills) |
The Rams now have a lengthy space between the first first-round pick for new Head Coach Sean McVay and their third round pick. They’ll add a sixth-round pick from the Detroit Lions from the trade for OT Greg Robinson ; they’ll also add a late conditional pick from the Baltimore Ravens from the trade for WR Chris Givens.
I wouldn’t write this in stone. We all know how easily moved draft picks are for General Manager Les Snead.
But as it stands today, the Rams are going to have a class headlined by a first-round pick and with significantly less Day 2 capital to back him up.
