2017 Rams Roster Preview: OLB Morgan Fox Seeking Position Change Boost?

Entering his second season with the Rams, will a change of position help Fox make the active roster?

NFL: Preseason-Los Angeles Rams at Denver Broncos Ron Chenoy-USA TODAY Sports

It’s an incredibly rough road making an NFL roster when you’re an undrafted free agent. Last season, Los Angeles Rams DL Morgan Fox found out how tough that road is firsthand.

Fox made the initial practice squad last year with a Week 5 call-up to the active roster. He would go through the same cycle again as he was placed back on the PS for Week 6 ending the season on the roster with a three-week run. The big question is if a change of position to outside linebacker will make Fox more valuable to the a new coaching staff led by Head Coach Sean McVay and Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips.

Roster Battle

Fox will be competing against the other depth outside linebackers. Direct competition for Fox includes 2017 NFL Draft picks Ejuan Price and Samson Ebukam. The other depth in Cory Littleton, Carlos Thompson and Kevin Davis will contend as well.

It’s going to be a crowded battle at outside linebacker. what will help Fox is that he will be competing against three undrafted free agents and a seventh-round pick. That should give him a fair chance at a roster spot.

Expectations

Not much. He’s likely in line to make the practice squad and possibly make the active roster due to injuries.

Chances of Making Final Roster (2/10)

It’s easy to say that Fox doesn’t have a chance to make the roster this season, but I’d hold out a slight chance that he could make the 53-man because of injury. Fox surprised last season and stuck with the Rams roster. So while it’s doubtful that he will make the roster again, you can never say never on the roster road.

Fox knows it personally.
