The NFL likes to eat up the annual offseason doldrums with lists. From top 100 players of the previous year to the various “Best of All Time” lists. This morning, NFL.com’s Gil Brandt weighed in on who he thinks the best cornerbacks of all time are, and two former members of the Los Angeles/St. Louis Rams made the list.
The first former Ram appeared at #11. The late great Dick “Night Train” Lane spent his first two seasons with the Los Angeles Rams before finishing out his Hall of Fame career with the Chicago Cardinals and Detroit Lions. His story is the stuff of legends. Orphan turned Soldier turned NFL Legend. For you younger fans, I highly recommend reading up on him.
The other Ram that appeared on Brandt’s list was Aeneas Williams at #8. Where Lane started his career with the Rams, Williams spent his first 10 years with the Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals prior to coming to St. Louis in 2001. His beginnings weren’t as humble as Lane’s, but Williams started as a walk on at Southern University and parlayed that into being a 3rd round selection in 1991. The rest - as they say - is history.
