It’s no secret that Aaron Donald is very, very good at what he does. From early on in his career, he has made Rams fans proud with accolades, Pro Bowls, and trophies. Unfortunately for him, the Rams seem hesitant to congratulate him with a new contract - but that’s a story for another day.
There are always new metrics coming out as the sabermetricians make their way into the NFL. But I always find those stats leave a little to be desired in terms of understanding how a player impacts the game.
This chart on the other hand, makes Donald’s impact perfectly clear.
UNSTOPPABLE. Aaron Donald's tackle heat map from last season. He made 57% of his plays on the opponent's side of the ball. #Rams pic.twitter.com/nRIoJrPYCg

This is obviously pretty impressive. I’m not privy to all the data so I can’t say for certain, but I’ve venture to guess that not many NFL players had more than half of their tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
What’s most impressive to me though is that one tackle way out on the right hand side of the chart. Big ‘ol 99 found a way to make it all the way out there and make a tackle for a loss. That’s impressive.
Keep on truckin’ towards that payday AD. I pray on all things holy that it comes from the Rams.
