2017 Rams Roster Preview: S Cody Davis, Holding On

Can the former UDFA make another positive offseason impression?

If you last four4 seasons on an NFL roster, you’re typically thought of as a “safe” option to repeat. Well, for Los Angeles Rams S Cody Davis, that may or may not be the case. Davis has been on the Rams roster for four consecutive years now and will be fighting for his spot.

It’s nothing that the former UDFA isn’t used to.

Roster Battle

Davis won’t be a starter, as Maurice Alexander and Lamarcus Joyner (with the linked position switch) likely have those roles locked in, though Davis could land #3 or at worst #4 on the safety depth chart, as rookie John Johnson is a lock to make the 53-man.

Leaving Davis as a primary backup to one of the safety spots bodes well for his roster chances.

Expectations

I expect him to be the immediate backup to one of the starting safeties. He may get some snaps on defense here or there, though his best contributions will likely come from special teams.

Chances of Making Final Roster (6.5/10)

Cody Davis likely has a spot on this roster, and his contributions on special teams and experience as depth will serve as useful for the Rams.
