In a bit of a surprise move, per ESPN Insider Adam Caplan the Los Angeles Rams have released DT Tyrunn Walker.

The Rams signed Walker back in March to stock up on 3-4 lineman given his experience playing 3-4 DE from his New Orleans Saints days as well as his college career at Tulsa. It’s a bit of a head-scratcher to sign a veteran prior to the draft and then release him just three months later, but here we are.

Perhaps this was a move similar to the release of C Demetrius Rhaney. Reportedly, the Rams were comfortable with the early careers of Austin Blythe and Jake Eldrenkamp. Perhaps a candidate or two has impressed in the offseason program to such a degree that the staff felt that Walker would simply be hindering the growth of those candidates by taking away snaps.

As it stands just 37 days to training camp, the Rams’ roster is one player with Walker’s release. Best of luck to him.

(UPDATED at 10:05pm ET)

Tough not to draw a direct line here, but the Advocate (Louisiana’s largest newspaper) is reporting that Walker is being investigated for rape.

Regardless of the legal consequences whatever they may or may not be, bear in mind that Walker can face NFL disciplinary actions regardless.
