The Los Angeles Rams’ first pick of the 2017 NFL Draft, South Alabama TE Gerald Everett, joined SB Nation Radio’s Tony Desiere on today’s Tony D Show (Apple News readers can listen here):
There’s some good nuggets in there especially on the process of the draft and his selection.
On what excites him about joining the Rams:
The Rams being on the West Coast, being able to spread the ball around and being able to join guys like Todd Gurley, Tavon Austin, Jared Goff and Alec Ogletree and being a part of the organization. Last year they didn’t do as well as they hoped to do, but I’m excited to come out and help to contribute and get back on top with LA.
On the moment when he got the phone call from the Rams:
You get the phone call about a few minutes before they announce it on TV, but you get the head call from the GM or you talk to the head coach or your position coach and any other coach they want to introduce you. You kinda see the area code pop up and you kinda already have a feeling and it lights your day up. I was ecstatic when I saw the California area code pop up, and I was like, “Man, this is it.”
So actually, I screenshotted that phone call when it came in just to save it for memory. And I answered it, and then they said, “Are you ready to be an LA Ram?” And it just kind of took off from there.
Give the interview a listen. There’s no doubt Everett’s excited to join the team. Here’s hoping it’s a successful partnership.
