The Los Angeles Rams have taken Virginia Tech FB Sam Rogers with the 206th pick in the 2017 NFL Draft.
Rogers is a bowling ball of a football player who came out of the Richmond are as a high school having played quarterback, wide receiver, running back and multiple positions on defense. After walking on at Tech, he quickly owned the top fullback spot and added the classic brute force approach to help some relatively poor rushing attacks through the end of the Frank Beamer era. It’s worth noting Rogers wasn’t just a blocker and oddball in the passing game as has Rams FB/TE Cory Harkey.
Rogers was a significant component in the Hokies’ rushing game in his career in Blacksburg. He finished with just less than 700 rushing yards in his four years to go with just more than 800 receiving yards.
Here's how the major draft sites ranked him:
Mocking the Draft: N/A FB, N/A overall
ESPN: 2nd FB, 291st overall
CBS Sports: 1st FB, 172nd overall
Welcome to the Rams, Sam Rogers!
