The Los Angeles Rams have selected South Alabama TE Gerald Everett with the 44th overall pick in the second round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

It certainly was a bit of a surprise pick. Many thought the Rams could go WR with USC WR Juju Smith-Schuster still on the board. Perhaps more surprising, this makes the third tight end in two drafts after the Rams selected Tyler Higbee in the fourth round of the 2016 NFL Draft followed by Temarrick Hemingway two rounds later.

New Rams Head Coach Sean McVay has always been a public proponent of the tight end position and its value in his offensive system. It’s not a full surprise then that the Rams’ first pick of the draft is a weapon clearly designed to help McVay upgrade the offense and develop franchise QB Jared Goff.

Here's how the major draft sites ranked him:

Mocking the Draft: 7th TE, 95th overall
ESPN: 7th TE, 96th overall
CBS Sports: 5th TE, 72nd overall

Gerald Everett is the newest Los Angeles Ram.
