2017 NFL Mock Draft: Matt Miller’s Final Mock Has LA Rams Poaching USC

New, comments

Could the Rams’ second draft since returning to LA be punctuated by some hometown talents?

We’re at the end. The 2017 NFL Draft is here and with it, the welcome end of mock draft season.

Helping us close it out is a new seven-round mock from B/R’s Matt Miller. Let’s just get at it.

#37.) USC WR JuJu Smith-Schuster

Gotta see how tonight shakes out in terms of the surprise prospects who drop out of the first, but this is a definite possibility. I do worry that this is a need-forced pick, something that would come back to bite the Los Angeles Rams if it’s not a pick borne out of a conviction that he’s the best fit for new Head Coach Sean McVay’s offense.

If it’s out of confidence and legit belief that they can make him their WR1? Sure. Lord knows the FO would love to have two USC WRs carrying the offense with a Cal QB. It sells itself!

Onto the third.

#69.) Alabama LB Ryan Anderson

Like this pick.

The Rams are looking THIN at OLB. You’ve got Robert Quinn who’s transitioning from a 4-3 DE after starting just 15 games in the last two years. You’ve got Connor Barwin on a one-year contract who turns 31-years old in October. And after that...well yeah. I’d be surprised if the Rams don’t add at least one OLB at some point in the draft. Anderson’s a fine candidate.

#112.) Iowa DL Jaleel Johnson

I’m a bit worried that Johnson doesn’t play as strong as his frame, but if he did he wouldn’t be available in the fourth round. I’d be fine throwing him to Rams Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips to build into a 3-4 DL.

#141.) Vanderbilt OT Will Holden

See above, but replace “Defensive Coordinator Wade Phillips” with “Offensive Coordinator Matt LaFleur.”

#149.) Pittsburgh RB James Conner

Really like this pick. Conner would be the plug for short downs/goalline carries on the RB depth chart. Amazing personal story overcoming Hodgkin's Lymphoma to boot.

#189.) USC OT Chad Wheeler

Another pick I love. Wheeler’s got a ton of upside this late assuming his medical check clears. All about the knees.

#206.) Northwestern DE Ifeadi Odenigbo

Odenigbo would likely slide in as a 3-4OLB for us. Given the scope of the need as I mentioned earlier, there’s clearly a fit. Is taking two overkill though?

#234.) Virginia Tech CB Chuck Clark

Hate this pick the most out of all (with the reasoning behind the Juju pick pending), but hey. It’s the seventh round. Have a blast.

Might be the last mock of the year. /tear falls

How yall feel about this one?
