There’s been a rumor floating around the NFL today with some obvious big ramifications for the Los Angeles Rams: that Peyton Manning could join the Rams’ front office.
Give it Time. I'm told Rams Owner Stan Kroenke very interested in Peyton Manning taking on John Elway type role in LA.— Chad Forbes (@NFLDraftBites) April 14, 2017
LA’s ESPN Radio affiliate jumped in on the news with Jorge Sedano and LZ Granderson talking it up:
Now, there is no concrete evidence this will happen. Neither Manning nor the Rams or any reliable sources have come out and said this is set in stone, so it should be taken with a grain of salt.
It’s worth pointing out that newly-signed CB Kayvon Webster posted a SnapChat story that showed Manning at Rams HQ followed by a dinner with Manning, Webster, new Rams Head Coach Sean McVay, newly-signed OT Andrew Whitworth as well as FA signing WR Robert Woods:
Nevertheless, this news could play a large domino for the Rams. Especially after seeing former players like John Elway and John Lynch be elevated into GM roles for the Denver Broncos and San Francisco 49ers respectively, it wouldn’t be right to just rule this news out. There hasn’t been any news leak about what sort of role he would be taking regardless, but it’s presumed to be some sort of front office role.
Manning was notoriously known for not only being one of the best and most productive players of all-time, but he was specifically known for his knowledge and his preparation of the game. I’m sure it also wouldn’t hurt to have Peyton show Jared Goff a thing or two about playing quarterback.
There could be some sort of adjustment period for Manning if this were to happen obviously, but for a team looking to get over the hump, this sort of move would certainly make waves in Los Angeles.
