While the name is notable for his college career and, uh, entertainment industry tie-ins, I’m not sure this one is going to have much impact on the Rams’ 2017 regular season.
Murray was a fifth-round selection for the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2014 NFL Draft coming off of a very productive four-year career at the University of Georgia. Though he competed with Chase Daniel for the backup spot behind Alex Smith with the Chiefs, he was never able to break through and was released in the cuts to the 53-man roster last season with the addition of former Rams QB Nick Foles solidifying the backup slot for KC.
Murray bounced around the Arizona Cardinals and Philadelphia Eagles rosters last season.
Is Murray just a camp body or is he being brought in to legitimately challenge HSOTE Sean Mannion for the backup spot behind franchise QB Jared Goff? It’s worth pointing out that Murray’s final two seasons in Athens in 2012 and 2013 coincided with the first two seasons of a very talented young running back in Just Todd Gurley...
Nonetheless, the Rams are now three QBs deep with Goff, Mannion and Murray headed toward the opening of free agency at 4pm ET today.
