Welp. We made it.

The 2017 NFL Scouting Combine is on and popping in Indianapolis, IN.

Here’s where we’re at on the schedule:

2017 NFL Scouting Combine - Day 2 Schedule

Group Status
Group Status
Group 1 (PK, ST, OL), Group 2 (OL), Group 3 (RB) Measurements, Medical Examinations, Overflow Testing, Interviews
Group 4 (QB, WR), Group 5 (QB, WR), Group 6 (TE) Medical Examinations, Overflow Testing, Orientation, Interviews

So we’re not quite into the on-field workouts punctuated of course by the 40-yard dash times that everybody loves. Those start in earnest on Friday for Groups 1-3. Nevertheless, we’ve got head coach and general manager interviews (Los Angeles Rams Head Coach Sean McVay and General Manager Les Snead will talk to the media tomorrow), measurements filtering in for the first three groups, and buzz growing around the QB/WR/TE prospects arriving.

A couple of random things I’m interested in today:

  • QB draft stock re-arranging. In SB Nation’s Dan Kadar’s most recent mock, he has three quarterbacks going in the first round: UNC QB Mitch Trubisky to the San Francisco 49ers at #2, Notre Dame QB DeShone Kizer to the Chicago Bears at #3 and Clemson QB Deshaun Watson to the New York Jets at #6. With height/weight/hand size/arm spa/errthang measurements coming in tomorrow, we’ll see even more buzz, but I’ve already seen some chatter regarding Texas Tech QB Pat Mahomes. Eager to see if he or anyone else can start wedging into the first-round conversation. Would only help Rams as we need as many players at positions of need to fall to us in the second.
  • QB measurements are tomorrow, but RB/OL measurements today. Big deal...like LSU RB Leonard Fournette who weighed in at 240 already. The Rams list RB Todd Gurley at 227. Fournette’s a bad, bad man.
  • Speaking of running backs, I wouldn’t be opposed to a Day 3 flier on a speedster, especially if the Rams don’t re-sign Benny Cunningham, one of 14 Rams scheduled to hit free agency in a bit more than a week 10 of whom will be unrestricted including Cunningham. Backs will test on Friday, but keep tabs on the news ahead of then.
  • We got the news on Trumaine Johnson getting tagged again for the second year in a row. Will we get any cap casualties leaked as the wheeling and dealing is going on in Lucas Oil Stadium behind closed doors? Plenty of options if the Rams are sincerely committed to opening up more cash to spend this offseason.
