Bleacher Report’s Jason Cole is reporting of some serious friction between Los Angeles Rams QB Jared Goff and his receiving corps last season:
Former members of the Los Angeles Rams’ coaching staff said that not only was the team’s lack of talent at wide receiver a problem throughout the 2016 season, but that those wide receivers had little regard for rookie quarterback Jared Goff.
Cole goes on to relay a recounting of how Goff asked the receivers to work out on an off day and none showed up.
At first reaction, it sounds like serious dysfunction. I’d urge caution though. There’s a high chance something’s being lost in translation.
You’ve got former coaches spilling on their previous employer with a clear reason to put them under. You’ve got a single account of what went down on that off day. You’ve got an overgeneralization clumping all of the Rams’ receivers together.
What are the chances that Goff asked one wide receiver to go through something on the off day and something came up? Or that any session that Goff and a group of wide receivers had intended to hold got pushed back for some reason?
Maybe there’s something to this. Maybe not. I’m hesitant to buy a ton into supposed dysfunction based on a 30 second video.
Here’s hoping for something more concrete from the Rams media in following up.
