The Los Angeles Rams have promoted CB Kevin Peterson from the practice squad after waiving TE Johnny Mundt. The move is quite clearly a worrisome omen given the recent injury situation at cornerback.
When CB Troy Hill was listed Questionable on the final injury report for Week 11 ahead of the Rams’ game against the Minnesota Vikings, it wasn’t the kind of injury situation to fret over much. The Rams still had their top three corners on the roster and even had two depth options stashed. By halftime, the situation had changed overwhelmingly as both CB Kayvon Webster and CB Nickell Robey-Coleman suffered injuries opening the door for CB Dominique Hatfield and DB Blake Countess to log significant playing time. That quickly became unavoidably worrisome when Hatfield failed to tackle Vikings WR Adam Thielen on an all-out blitz package resulting in a 65-yard touchdown.
So with Webster recovering in the concussion protocol and Robey-Coleman dealing with an undisclosed thigh injury, Peterson’s promotion portends some mix of depth seeing the field on Sunday as the Rams welcome the 8-2 NFC South-leading New Orleans Saints to the Coliseum in Week 12.
