The Los Angeles Rams have taken the NFL by storm over the first 7 weeks of the season. They lead the NFL with 30.3 points per game and have the largest point differential in the league as well with a +73 mark. If the playoffs were to start today, the Rams would be the #3 seed taking on the Aaron Rodgers-less Green Bay Packers. Not a bad start for Sean McVay’s Rams.
The best part of the Rams 5-2 record is that they have done it convincingly. They’ve lost their 2 games by an average of 6.5 points while they’ve won by an average of 17.4 PPG. That is skewed a bit with a couple of blowouts, but it’s impressive nonetheless.
Looking back, I don’t know many Rams fans who were predicting a 5-2 start nor looking at the Rams as legitimate NFC contenders this season. Most people I know were looking at 2017 as a year where McVay would build a foundation for the future and use that as a platform for a playoff run in 2018. He’s proved to be magical with the offense though and Wade Phillips has done his part as well after a rough start to the season.
All in all, it’s very difficult to look at the first 7 weeks of McVay’s head coaching career as a tremendous success, but it’s your opinion here that matters, not mine.
