Los Angeles Rams vs Arizona Cardinals: Matchups to Watch

NFL: International Series-Arizona Cardinals Practice Kirby Lee-USA TODAY Sports

Another divisional game, another opportunity for the Los Angeles Rams to seize control of the NFC West as they head into their bye week. The Rams forfeited a home game this season to play the 3-3 Arizona Cardinals in London this week.

If the Rams are going to grab the division by the balls, they’ll need to win these matchups at Twickenham Stadium today.

Adrian Peterson vs Alec Ogletree and Mark Barron

The Rams have two very expensive inside linebackers who struggle against the run. The Cardinals have an aging - but Hall of Fame - running back. Peterson showed the doubters that he has a little left in the tank in his Cardinals debut. While he’s not the back he once was, he’s still a formidable foe. Barron and ‘Tree will need to step up their game this week.

Chandler Jones vs Andrew Whitworth

Jones is a premier edge rusher and already has 7 sacks on the season. Andrew Whitworth has shown that father time hasn’t caught up to him yet and has continued to be a dominant LT. Jared Goff has had issues in the past dealing with pressure, so whoever wins this matchup is going to go a long way in determining the outcome of this game.

Robert Woods vs Justin Bethel

You have to figure that Patrick Peterson is going to shadow the enigmatic Sammy Watkins. That leaves Bethel matched up with Woods in a matchup that is very appealing to Rams fans. Pro Football focus has Bethel rated as “poor” and slotted him as the #95 CB in the NFL with a 44.5 grade in 2017. Meanwhile they have Woods rated as “average” as the #54 WR in the NFL with a 70.9 grade. Expect Woods to see a lot of targets.
