Given (a) his punt block yesterday that Brown converted for a touchdown and (b) his 81.25% playing rate on special teams which is tops by a wide margin, is it time we start talking about how valuable LB Cory Littleton is? Worth pointing out he topped 10% of the defensive snaps for the third time this season too.
It slipped by my radar, but someone at the NFL was ready to start talking about him because he’s been nominated for the NFL’s Castrol EDGE Clutch Performers of the Week Award for Week 6. The Rams’ 2016 Carroll Rosenbloom Memorial Award winner, given to the team’s top rookie, Littleton’s punt block allowed RB Malcolm Brown to score the final touchdown of the game. As the Rams’ top special teams contributor (by a large margin), Littleton is due for some praise.
Here are the other nominees:
- Pittsburgh Steelers RB Le’Veon Bell: Ran for 179 yards with one touchdown in the Steelers’ huge win over the previously undefeated Kansas City Chiefs, 19-13.
- Arizona Cardinals RB Adrian Peterson: In his first game with the Cards after being traded from the New Orleans Saints, put up 134 yards with two touchdowns to help Arizona hold off the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 38-33.
- New Orleans Saints RB Mark Ingram: Added his 114 yards and two touchdowns to the Saints’ 52-38 shootout over the Detroit Lions.
- Tennessee Titans RB Derrick Henry: Went for 131 yards with a touchdown as the Titans bested the Indianapolis Colts, 36-22.
