ESPN’s John Clayton dropped a big board of his top 50 free agents for the 2017 NFL offseason (ESPN insider subscription required), and it features three Los Angeles Rams: CB Trumaine Johnson, WR Kenny Britt and S T.J. McDonald.
Tru comes in at 21 where Clayton says:
The Rams made a mistake in letting Janoris Jenkins sign with the Giants last offseason, and they can't afford to lose Johnson after they franchised him a year ago.
I might disagree that we “can’t afford” to lose Johnson, but certainly losing your two starting cornerbacks of the caliber of Jackrabbit and Tru in two consecutive offseasons wouldn’t indicate great personnel management.
Down at 27, the Rams’ first 1,000-yard receiver since 2007 features:
After what might be considered a disappointing five-year tenure with the Tennessee Titans, Britt became a reliable receiver during his three years with the Rams. He had his first career 1,000-yard season.
With new Head Coach Sean McVay set to take over, the offense is about to get turned on its head. How long that takes personnel-wise and what few Rams are pegged into McVay’s long-term plans is tough to gauge. Suffice to say, I wouldn’t be terribly broken up if Britt weren’t part of those long-term plans.
McDonald’s down at #33:
McDonald has good size and range at strong safety.
The Rams are heading into the offseason with 11 unrestricted free agents:
