The Rams make a minor move today, waiving veteran cornerback Steve Williams (formerly of the San Diego Chargers) and promoting DB (mostly safety) Isaiah Johnson from the practice squad.

Johnson, a second year player out of Georgia Tech, spent time on the Detroit Lions practice squad for the 2015 season. Hard to speculate but it is possible that E.J. Gaines is nearing a return, prompting a bigger need for a safety over a cornerback. Or, Johnson may be a better Special Teams player.

The slot opened up on the practice squad by Johnson’s promotion was filled by Norfolk State DE/OLB Lynden Trail. Trail is a 6’7”, 260-lb. (no, seriously) edge player who bounced around the NFL fringe last season as a UDFA.
