Well, perhaps the it has worn off. Game 1 of the 2016 Los Angeles Rams' preseason was perhaps more about the city of Los Angeles and the notion of NFL football returning than the football itself.
No longer.
The Rams can't rely on novelty. There's football to be played. Three weeks from Monday, that football will matter. Immensely. The Rams have just three more tune-ups to prepare for that Monday Night Football contest in San Francisco starting with tonight's matchup with the Kansas City Chiefs.
It's time to start figuring things out.
Is Jared Goff ready to take over the Rams offense? He needs to start looking like it.
Is the offensive line in form? There's no reason not to be. The Rams kept their 2015 line intact hoping that the chemistry they formed last year and any individual improvement would be enough to build a competent unit for 2016.
Are the rookies in the passing game going to help improve Goff's options downfield? The Rams better hope so.
And defensively, are they going to hold up after losing four starters from last season? They certainly didn't look the part last week in the first half against Dak Prescott.
Sure, we'll get plenty of time for the back end of the roster to help the coaching staff get ready to cut the roster down to 53 players for Week 1. But tonight, again, should largely focus on getting the starting core of the team ready for San Francisco...starting with Jared Goff.
