In the projected starting depth chart for the 2016 Los Angeles Rams provided by the team in their 2016 training camp media preview, the clear major storyline was that 2016 NFL Draft #1 overall pick Jared Goff was listed as the backup QB.
While it may not have the same impact as the Goff snub, the exclusion of safety T.J. McDonald was perhaps more surprising. McDonald was not listed as a starter, a position he earned for Week 1 of his rookie season in 2013, nor was he listed among the “key contributors” among the reserves.
Back in May, McDonald was arrested for a non-alcohol-related DUI. McDonald, along with RB Tre Mason who was arrested two months prior to McDonald and has had the cops called to his home five times this offseason, did not attend the Rams’ official team activities earlier this offseason.
The listed starting safeties were third-year Maurice Alexander and fourth-year special teams contributor Cody Davis.
