Los Angeles Rams free safety Cody Davis joined the team as an undrafted free agent in 2013. Davis played his collegiate ball at Texas Tech, making 49 starts over his four year-span with the Red Raiders after being redshirted his freshman year.
The same year Davis joined the team, another undrafted player, Rodney McLeod, was named the Rams' starting free safety. Three years later – and now that McLeod has departed from the team – Davis is trying to become the next successful undrafted free agent in the Rams' secondary.
Roster Battle
Davis is battling for the starting free safety job. His main competition for the gig is 2014 NFL Draft seventh-rounder Christian Bryant, but other names like Maurice Alexander and even Lamarcus Joyner – though unlikely, since Fisher seems to prefer him in the slot – have been thrown out as possible solutions.
Outside options in free agency like veteran safeties Donte Whitner and Dashon Goldson have also been explored by the Rams.
Expectations
If we go high, Cody wins the starting job and becomes the "angel" of the defense. At worse, he will continue to be a steady presence with the special teams unit.
Chances of Making Final Roster (8/10)
Cody is a solid special teams contributor. He is also in the mix for the starting free safety position. He should make the roster even if he does not win the starting free safety job.
